Narrowing Down Family Summer Vacation Destinations

Posted on 01. Aug, 2014 by in Vacations

Deciding to spend quality time with your family is the easy part. Choosing between all the family summer vacation destinations can prove to be a little more of a challenge. The first step is to decide the type of getaway that would best fit your family at this particular point in your lives, and then narrow down specifics within that category.

Educational

Do you want the kiddos to pick up a little knowledge before summer break turns their brains to mush? If so, you might want to consider locations with a historic significance such as Washington, D.C., or important Civil War locales. For a star crossed family, a trip to a national space center might open up a whole new frontier.

Landmarks

This category includes the places we have all seen a million time in books and on screen, but with images that cannot even begin to hold a candle to seeing the real thing. The Grand Canyon, St. Louis Arch, Mount Rushmore and Niagara Falls are a just a few you might throw into your hat of family summer vacation destinations.

Theme Parks

Disney may be the first to come to mind here, but your options are actually quite vast depending on your interests. Like old school charm and a down-home feel? Places such as Silver Dollar City or Dollywood may be up your alley. Have an engineer-minded little one who loves brightly colored locking blocks? Make your way to Legoland.  You can also find a plethora of water theme parks nowadays that offer insane slides for the family thrill seekers along with wave pools and lazy rivers for the less adventurous members of your clan.

The Great Outdoors

This is for the family that is not afraid see a bug or two on their trip … or perhaps a rather large black bear. Tent, cabin or RV camping in locations such as the Rockies, Yosemite, the Smoky Mountains, or even a sandy beach can offer a chance to unplug and enjoy Mother Nature up close and in a personal manner.

Once you figure out the category in which you would like your getaway to fall, it will be much easier narrowing down your scope to the family summer vacation destinations that will best suit your group.
